Rathore (Sarika), the wife of the local irrigation minister and former Maharaja P. Released in 2007 when Bollywood was testing the waters for realistic films that broke industry stereotypes (“Swami,” “Khoya Khoya Chand”, “Dharm”), Manorama falls squarely in the list of experimental Bollywood productions that were ahead of their time and served to create benchmarks for the future. Not a commercial success back then, the film turns out to have a cult following, with most critics giving it positive reviews. Inspired by the controversial Roman Polanski 1974 neo-noir classic “Chinatown”, Manorama Six Feet Under is an Indian thriller co-written and directed by Navdeep Singh.

But when I finally did go through the film that had been on ‘my list’ for a few weeks “ Manorama Six Feet Under” turned out to be the exact kind of movie for which I have Netflix installed.

MSFU is the story of Satyaveer who stumbles upon a mystery and the (failed!) writer in him itches to seek the truth – redemption or quest? Abhay Deol apparently is focusing on building his competency in the "new-age cinema" genre (there is too much competition in the mainstream anyway). A few places you can see the shades of Tarantino style of movie-making. Screenplay and cinematography is commendable, you can almost feel the heat of the desert and sand on your face. It takes a while to build the atmosphere, characters gets established, suspense builds up and races ahead to a grand finale. Viewers who are not fond of reading might judge the pace of the movie to be slow. rAjOo Six Feet Under is akin to reading a novel. Anil Poddar, compounded all the more by the sudden death of Manorama and the disappearance of an orphan named Deepti. Satyaveer accepts this offer little knowing that he will soon be thrust into a web of lies and deceit, which will not only get him in the bad books of Rathore, assaulted by his goons, but also implicate him in the murder of two lovers, Sameera, and Dr. Now out of a job, he is approached by Manorama Rathore, the wife of the Irrigation Minister, to collect evidence that her husband is having an extra-marital affair for a fee of Twenty thousand rupees. To make matters worse he accepts a motorbike from Seema Constructions as a bribe, is apprehended, and suspended pending an inquiry. So dismayed was he with this that he decided to not even keep a copy for his private library. Satyeveer also authored a fictional novel 'Manorama' that sold only about 200 copies. Rathore, making tall promises of diverting water from Haryana and Punjab via a canal that is being constructed on a controversial site. The region faces drought and extreme temperatures, with the local Irrigation Minister, P.P.
